Students should be put into small teams. They have to identify the odd one out from each list AND have to say why. Explain to students that they may be able to come up with more than one odd one out. This is fine as long as they can justify their answer each time and will get them more points. This can lead to a lively debate and should be encouraged. Students should be given one point for each correct odd man out and one for a justification. If they have two odd man out answers and two good justifications for any question, then that would be 4 points!

Possible answers: 1) Microphone - hardware, all the others are to do with software. Microsoft word - an actual product, all the others are generic names. 2) Operating system - generic description, all the others are named products. Scratch - programming language, all the others aren't. 3) Operating system - generic description, all the others are named products. 4) Windows 7 is an OS that provides the other things in the list. 5) Utility program is a generic description. All the others are types of utility programs. 6) Firewall helps prevent threats to a computer, all the others are potential threats or intrusions (cookie). Cookie, is not related to a security threat whereas all the others are. Your students may be able to justify other answers.
