WJEC AS and A Level Computer Science (to be taught from Sept 2015)
The WJEC Computer Science AS and A Level courses have been designed to give students in Wales an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of Computer Science. The specification has been designed to allow teachers to concentrate on teaching an uncomplicated, streamlined, future-proofed course with a broad scope of study opportunities for students. AS Students will study Units 1 and 2. A Level students will study Units 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. All students will
* understand and apply the fundamental principles of Computer Science
* develop skills in abstraction, decomposition, logic, algorithms and data representation
* analyse problems in computational terms
* develop sound programming skills based on solid design foundations
* think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically
* develop Maths skills relevant to those required by Computer Scientists and programmers
* understand the economic, legal, ethical, moral and cultural issues that underpin Computer Science.
